As 2024 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on a year that has tested us in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Yet, through these challenges, our collective resolve has only grown stronger. At Rocky Mountain Equality, our mission remains steadfast: to protect, advocate, and ensure that no one faces discrimination or fear alone. This year, that mission has taken on even greater urgency—and we’ve risen to the occasion, together.
This year has shown us the strength of our community. When hate sought to spread and threaten the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve, you stood with us. You demonstrated the unshakable power of solidarity, proving that our determination to fight for a future of equality, acceptance, and celebration is unyielding.
This year, you have supported the LGBTQ+ community in so many ways, including:
Defeating Hate Before It Grows: Together, we stopped anti-LGBTQ+ ballot initiatives in Colorado before they could even reach the ballot box, safeguarding our community’s rights.
Protecting Marriage Equality: You voted to ensure that all Coloradans’ freedom to marry remains protected, even as federal safeguards are called into question.
Expanding Our Reach: More than 30,000 LGBTQ+ Coloradans found community, support, and belonging through our services this year—a record in our 30-year history, and one we’re on track to surpass again.
Bringing People Together: From Pride celebrations and Transgender Awareness Week to our new 50+ programming, we hosted over 60 events, creating spaces for connection, joy, support, and shared purpose.
Empowering Youth: More than 2,000 young people participated in our programs, including groups, classes, camps, and internships—providing growth opportunities to the next generation of leaders and advocates.
These achievements are a testament to what we can accomplish together. But they are also a reminder of the work that lies ahead. As a new federal administration takes office, we anticipate new challenges that will demand our courage and resolve. Hate thrives when left unchecked, but we’ve proven time and again that our community will rise above fear to build something stronger.
Even when I think about the uncertainties in our immediate future, I am filled with hope. That hope comes from you. From the courage you show. From the love you pour into creating a more equitable world. From the belief that no matter the challenges, we are stronger together.
Thank you for your unwavering compassion, your dedication to our mission, and your belief in a future where equality prevails. Together, we will never stop fighting for a better world.
