Queer Joy, Resistance, and Authenticity Take Center Stage

Rocky Mountain Equality is thrilled for the return of the Colorado Queer Comedy Festival, running from October 3 to October 6 in Fort Collins, Boulder, and Longmont. Now in its second year, the festival brings together the boldest and brightest LGBTQ+ comedians from across the country, offering a space where queer joy, resistance, and authenticity take center stage.

This event is more than just a series of performances—it’s a platform for amplifying the diverse voices of the LGBTQ+ community, promoting activism, and raising funds for Rocky Mountain Equality’s advocacy efforts to protect LGBTQ+ people, particularly trans people and our youth. This year, we are excited to partner with the New York Queer Comedy Festival, welcoming talented comedians from Manhattan to our Front Range community for a powerful and entertaining collaboration.

A Powerful Collaboration for a Greater Cause

Drew Tessier, the creator and organizer of the New York Queer Comedy Festival, shared his enthusiasm for this partnership:

"The mission of the New York Queer Comedy Festival remains dedicated to getting queer talent recognized and showcased in major comedy clubs. I'm thrilled to bring some of New York's funniest LGBTQ comedians to support and expand this exciting collaboration with the Colorado Queer Comedy Festival."

Not only is this festival a celebration of laughter and joy, but it also serves as a crucial fundraiser to support Rocky Mountain Equality, ensuring that queer voices continue to be heard in the fight for equality.

An Unforgettable Lineup of Queer Comedy Talent

Colorado Queer Comedy Festival organizer and comedian Ren Q. Dawe calls this year’s festival "a triumph," saying:"The sheer amount of talent and skill in our lineup not only exemplifies queer excellence in the performing arts, but it's a triumph that we are all coming together to share in some queer joy and using that to protect our community and affect change.”

We asked some of the featured comedians about their thoughts on the festival and its importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Here’s what they had to say:

Jonah Nigh:"Queer comedy festivals are spaces where I can let my shoulders relax. I don’t have to worry about how my identity will other me from the rest of the lineup. It releases me from the pressure of being the 'gay comic,' and allows me to focus more on the craft of the act."

Diana Ramsey:"The idea of getting to come to a beautiful city like Boulder and entertain the comedy audiences out that way is an opportunity I am thrilled to have. Meeting and connecting with other amazing LGBTQIA+ talent from around the country is something I really am looking forward to as well."

Ren Q. Dawe:"Personally, I am most excited for the greenroom giggles. Being around other queer comedians is a really precious experience to me; it feels like you finally get to be in a room of people that speak your language."
